How natural scents and Aromatherapy work in your everyday life:
Smell is the strongest sense and is the one that is best able to influence brain activity. This is why when we smell something, we can remember someone or something so automatically. Olfactory bulbs are part of the limbic system and can very much influence brain activity. Natural scents/incenses work because of this.

Some natural scents are even able to improve your job performance and health. They are anti-bacterial and anti-viral. Once you inhale a certain scent this activates the hypothalamus, which is the area of the brain which send messages to other parts of your body. So, when you need a lift, more concentration or even relief a headache, make sure you keep in mind that natural scents can do the trick too!
