Feng Shui Entrance- Door Direction




To increase the Feng Shui benefits to your main entrance, consider applying principles specific to the direction of your main door. Listed below are the specific rules you can apply depending on the directionality of your entrance. 

North facing door: Use decorations that support and nourish the WATER and METAL elements such water features and metal pots. Also add a blue or black doormat, and decorate with the colors blue, black, white and gray. Be sure to avoid Fire and Earth elements, including the colors red, purple, pink, green, brown and all earthy tones.


West or Northwest facing door: Use decorations and colors that nourish and supporting the METAL Feng Shui element. This can be accomplished by including such items as metal vases and ornaments. A square or round doormat are also excellent choices for a West or Northwest facing door. Good colors to use are white, gray and all earthy tones, however, Fire elements and colors such red, orange, purple, yellow, pink, blue and black should be avoided.

South facing door: Decorations and colors that nourish and support the FIRE Feng Shui element work perfectly for South facing doors. These include the colors red, orange, strong yellow, purple, magenta and pink. Include pots and ornaments in these colors, and be sure to include a rectangular doormat. Avoid a strong presence of Earth and Water element décor by avoiding clay pottery in earthy colors and the colors blue and black.

East or Southeast facing door: These doors are best supported by the WOOD element of Feng Shui. Good colors to use are green, brown, blue, black and all earthy shades. Also include plants, greenery and water fountains. Pots in earthy colors or rocks near to the entrance are particularly effective, and rectangle shaped doormats are ideal for this type of entrance. Colors to avoid include red, purple, white, gray orange, yellow and pink, and anything related to the Metal and Fire elements should be eliminated from the space.


Southwestfacing door: Use decorations and colors that support and nourish the EARTH element such earth or sand colored pottery and rocks. The Fire element nourishesthe Earth, so the best colors for decorating are burgundy, red, purple, deep orange and rich pink. Avoid colors and features from the elementsWood, Metal and Water such as green, brown, white, gray, blue and black, and do not include water features or metal ornaments in the entryway.

Northeast facing door: For Northeast facing doors, use decorations and colors that support and nourish the EARTH element. These include earthy/sandy colors like yellow, burgundy red, purple, deep orange and rich pink. The Fire element nourishesthe Earth element and can also be included for Northeast facing front doors. For these doors, avoid the destructive-weakening element colors of green, brown, white, gray, blue and black, which represent the elements of Wood, Metal and Water. Also be wary of water features and metal or wood ornaments.
